Prayer and Fasting Devotion 1: Sunday, January 5, 2020
It's that time of year again when we corporately commit 21 Days to Prayer and Fasting. Our focus for this first week is for clarity in the area of Identity. Identity is vital for every believer. Identity as we will define it is knowing who you are, why you were born, and what your purpose is on this earth.
Take a few minutes and answer these three questions?
1. Who are you?
2. Why were you born?
3. What is your purpose here on earth?
Matthew 3:16-17 is a great reminder that if identity clarity was important for Jesus, then it is important for us to have the same clarity. "When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (NKJ)
The first step in having the clarity you need in the area of identity is knowing who your Father is! Identity is found in the Father! A major factor in how we function as Christians is rooted in how we view ourselves in our relationship with God;
And just as Jesus is God's "Son" - so are you!
Galatians 3:26 says: "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus." As a beloved "son" or "child of God," you now have significance, you have meaning and a purpose to live for!
Begin today by meditating on and memorizing on Galatians 3:26 above. Feel free to post questions and encouraging comments below. Join me in praying God's blessings on our church as we begin this 2020 Prayer and Fasting Journey together!
